My latest book, Whispering Woods, is about a New England inn, the people who run it, those who visit, and those whose lives are affected by Cathy and Phil Baxter. It begins in NYC where the power couple is caught up in the “rat race” and the final impetus for leaving is the tragedy of 9.11. Here’s that part of the story:
part of Chapter 5
“So, what’s up?” she queried, tucking herself under his embracing arm.
“No, you first. How…..
In my book, Whispering Woods, I recount the devastation of the 9.11 attack specifically on one fictional family, the Baxters who lived and worked and worshiped within blocks of the World Trade Towers. This excerpt shows the damage to their two million dollar penthouse condo, their stewardship of taking all their food and pantry items to St. Paul’s Church to feed the rescuers, firemen, and workers at the site, and their leaving the city.
“Phil wonders out loud how the…..
Since 9.11 is such a big part of the life of the Baxter family in my latest book, Whispering Woods, I am including chapters of that book as my blog leading up to 9.11 this year. This chapter recounts what happened to Ben Goddard whose office was in World Trade Center #7:
“Building Number 7 caught fire pretty soon after the towers were hit. Lots of debris fell on it, and before anyone knew it, the roof was engulfed. Seems…..
This is a journal entry in my upcoming book, Winter Wonderland, sequel to Whispering Woods published in August. In it, Jean, the nanny to Michael and Kelsey recount the harrowing events of that day, when she would leave the condo just down the block from the Trade Towers to escort children from their neighborhood school to one in Greenwich Village. To read more, see my blogs for the past three Fridays at this site, or purchase Whispering Woods at Amazon.com…..
9.11.2001 We who lived through this horrific day have specific memories. As I was writing my sixth book, Whispering Woods, published two months ago, I recalled this scene with a family whose entire lifestyle was affected by this disaster, as were the lives of the 3000 who were sacrificed to terrorism that day, their friends and families, their businesses, and their entire lifestyles. We grieve still. The Baxter family lived and worked very close to the World Trade Center buildings……
This week I am thinking about my mom who died eighteen years ago this week. She was a marvelous example of a Proverbs 31 woman. In Winter Wonderland, the book I am currently finishing, the second in the Whispering Woods series, I am planning a women’s retreat conference where 250 women will gather under the teaching of a Proverbs 31 woman named Daphne. This section from Chapter 12 reminds us all of the ideal image of a Proverbs 31 woman,…..
As promised, leading up to the anniversary of 9.11, here is chapter 3 of Whispering Woods, dated September 10, 2001. To read more, the book is available in paperback and ebook at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com. See the trailer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz_MPtVkiKY.
CHAPTER 3
“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.” (Proverbs 10:22)
Phil is first out the door. Grabbing his Italian leather brief case, quickly tossing kisses like candy,…..
After taking a forced hiatus from writing for over a week, I find myself in a quandary. I thought last week that I had the free time to do a complete read-through of the 183 page draft of the book. I have given a copy to Faith, my illustrator, and for the most part had ignored writing time because two full days of babysitting intervened, plus my major role in putting on a Birthday Bash for the church’s Best Yet…..
For this week’s edition of Whispering Woods, I include a chapter from the book. We have less than a month before the anniversary of 9.11, so the plan is to lead up to that event which is recounted in Whispering Woods. On that fateful day, Cathy and Phil Baxter lose their businesses and their condo, all too near the disaster zone.
Here is chapter one of Whispering Woods:
CHAPTER ONE
“The path of the righteous is like the first gleam…..
In my continuing saga of spending Fridays blogging about writing Whispering Woods and its sequel, Winter Wonderland, I’m in the throes of revision, and revision is difficult.
My writing process is more fluid, I suppose, than it should be. I do not start with an outline, per se, but with an idea. Sometimes the writing comes very easily, flows well, just feels right. But sometimes, as in this week’s struggles, things just ebb and flow, much like the ocean, and…..
