Day 1
Today let us remember the legacy of faith presented to us by those who have lived the Christian life before us. Perhaps it is the prayers of a grandmother or parent that has brought you to faith. Perhaps it is a Sunday School teacher who not only taught you, but exhibited Christ’s message even without using words or flannel graph figures. Perhaps it is a pastor or youth leader who inspired you to think about the spiritual life…..
A praise song from Covenant Church by Christy and Nathan Nockels and David Crowder called “Wonderful Name” speaks to the tragedy in Las Vegas and all the other suffering we have endured these last few months with death, disease, and hurricanes. May it bless you as it has blessed me today:
There is healing for all who ache. There is comfort for all in pain. There is freedom there is grace; In Jesus and the power of His name. All…..
Just finished reading a powerful book by Tim Ehrmann (thanks, Barbara Silva) called “I Met God in Hell.” It is the autobiography of a man addicted to drugs and living the “rocker” lifestyle, whose life has been transformed by God’s power. Then I read a passage in Job 28 as I was praying for the people under siege by the power of earthquakes and storms. Where is wisdom found? Only in God. Here’s Job 28: 20-28. God is sovereign. “Where…..
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, Almighty in creation, Redeemer of our souls, as we Floridians face a mega storm today, testing our wills, our stamina, our faith, our ingenuity, our patience, our relationships with others and our submission to authority, we pray for Your mercy. Yes, You can calm the winds, and yes, You can calm our souls. May we be faithful to You, the God who controls the universe and shows us our place in it. In times of…..

My Psalm 210
Dear Heavenly Father, Creator,, yet Abba, Father,
Your rich blessings fall on me
Like the thunderous showers of yesterday!
You drench me with Your love,
You saturate me with Your Presence
Whenever I call on Your Blessed Name.
From the desert of nonchalance,
You raise me to remembrance
Of noticing the big things, the little things,
And treating both with Thanksgiving.
You place in my life members of Your cloud of witnesses
Who nourish me…..
My Psalm 205 With Isaac Watts “I Sing the Mighty Power of God!” “I sing the mighty power of God That made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, And built the lofty skies. There’s not a plant or flower below But makes Thy glories known; And clouds arise, and tempest blow By order from Thy throne.”
My mind’s memory matches these mighty words With loud organ swells Not guitars and drums and keyboards. Just as I am…..
The President has declared this day, September 3, 2017 a National Day of Prayer for the victims and responders to the Texas and Louisiana disaster following hurricane Harvey. Let us join with our brothers and sisters across this great nation in prayer.
Let us read together Psalm 77 and Psalm 78 through verse 8 and worship the God who sustains the universe and saves our souls. Let us return to worship. Let us pray as a nation for unity…..
Oh, how our country needs this message from the book of James in the Bible. I am heartened by the unselfish attitudes of helpers and caregivers and first responders along the Gulf Coast. Would that we would exhibit this care for each other on a daily basis. But it seems the media encourages bitterness, opposition, innuendo, adverse criticism to the point of showing ignorance to encourage strife. Stiletto heels? Really? Can we take a minute to look at this LOVELY…..
As part of the world, in its fallen state, we justifiably feel anxious from time to time. Whether it is facing an impending weather event like a Florida hurricane, or a medical procedure or diagnosis, or financial woes, we could just wring our hands, ask, “Why? God?” or complain about our lot in life. Most people would understand those responses as normal.
However, for the believer, sanctified in the faith, mature in the knowledge and experience of God’s sovereignty, we…..
As part of my newest book, Life-Changing Waters, a Devotional Guide, this entry concerns the deserts of life, when God seems distant because we sometimes experience loneliness.
WE SEARCH FOR GOD’S MERCY IN
LONELINESS
My Psalm 216
Almighty Father, Provider of all good things,
We praise Your Name and worship at Your throne.
You give us all we need in this life,
And that plentifully.
You grant us food, clothing, purpose, and joy
When we live according to Your…..
