“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.” Buddha
After spending a weekend at the Space Coast Writers’ Guild Conference in Cocoa Beach, I’m even more enthusiastic about writing, and the creation of art. What a joy it was to find others who strive to find just the right word, just the right image to express ideas. Creativity is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. We see it in intentional art, in home decor, in a well-planned and executed meal; we hear it in symphonies, musicals, and even…..
“Love is the spirit that motivates the artist’s journey. The love may be sublime, raw, obsessive, passionate, awful or thrilling, but whatever its quality, it’s a powerful motive in the artist’s life.” Eric Maisel
I was again struck how refreshing good music well performed can help my spirits soar and refresh me after a long day. Yesterday was just such a time. I was in workshops and lectures all day on my next favorite subject, writing. Always thinking about new adventures, my mind drifted to music. Why don’t books come with accompanying cd’s? Then, Emily and I went to the Space Coast Symphony’s production of movie music, and I rejoiced as we revisited Sound…..
“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs, and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.” George Eliot
It’s 5:00 a.m. and I’ve been “doing” since about 4:30. Insomiac me. Today is the Space Coast Writers Guild Writing Conference; I’m excited to attend and participate fully in learning more about this craft of writing. I have a completed manuscript to market, and want some critique on the Memory Garden book in progress, hope to sell some copies of It’s a God Thing!, and will enjoy networking and attending workshops throughout the weekend.
But, like today’s Daily Vitamin, I…..
“Work is not always required. . . there is such a thing as sacred idleness, the cultivation of which is now fearfully neglected.” George Macdonald
Thanksgiving should not be limited to a Thursday in November, but should be in our hearts and on our minds daily. I’ve always called it Thanksliving. It is inevitable that negative things get the attention first in our days–I gotta do this, or I must solve this problem, or this is where I need to focus my attention or awful things will happen. We stress, we worry, we feel guilt when we fail to address the priorites, and we feel…..
Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good. –Maya Angelou
Last night I finished book number 2: Job Loss: What’s Next? A Step by Step Action Plan. It’s thrilling knowing that readers may use this book when they are facing loss of employment or, as I have recently done, begun retirement. There’s much to be said about John Ruskin’s statement: “In order that poeple may be happy in their work, these three things are needed: They must be fit for it. They must not do too much of it. And…..
