We live in a fallen world. Our heavy hearts deplore the violence in Boston, the abortion of millions of innocent babies, the careless indifference to God’s laws and man’s worship of selfishness, and threats and rumors of war.
This is not the way we want to live life, and most assuredly, not the way God’s plan is.
This is a call to revival, at least individually, if not as a church, as a nation, as a world.
Today, let us…..
Although tax day is dismal for some, just remember the blessings still afforded to Americans, where we can accomplish much by pooling resources and working together to make this a better world until the Lord comes to perfect His. With me, pray that those in Washington use clear thinking to spend the resources coming from American people, that prudence, understanding, compassion, and wisdom prevail.
Is there anywhere else on earth you’d rather live this day? Because we pay taxes, we…..
One of the great things about retirement, or I suppose anytime, is that we get leisure to plant seeds.
I’m a gardener, as you already know, and enjoy the whole process of preparing, digging, planting, nurturing, harvesting. I love the urgency of getting the preparation done, the joy of watching emerging plants develop, and the absolute joy of harvesting and sharing the rewards of my time and effort. One of my favorite things is to make posey bouquets by cutting…..
It seems our church is exploding, and a blessed way. Recent “We’re expecting!” announcements have filled Facebook and emails, and we are using the word Congratulations for more than the numerous I’m Graduating invitations coming in the mail.
My daughter and I were doing a finger-count this morning. We think the number is between 15 and 20 of our lovely young mothers nurturing tiny ones. Our church is growing!
I can remember a time when leaders were saying we should…..
On Nov. 18, 1995, Itzhak Perlman, the violinist, came on stage to give a concert at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. If you have ever been to a Perlman concert, you know that getting on stage is no small achievement for him. He was stricken with polio as a child, and so he has braces on both legs and walks with the aid of two crutches. To see him walk across the stage one step at a time, painfully and slowly,…..
We were blessed by a message yesterday in church about dealing with discouragement, troubles, disappointments, or what I call “junk.”
On the outside, I’m usually the smiling, “I can handle anything” type of personna, but that’s often a charade, probably to make myself feel better. I choose to look at the brighter side. I mean, really, if God is in charge of the world, and in particular, my life and the lives of those I love, what’s to worry about? …..
Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born. –Dale E. Turner, author
There are two “dreams” on my radar today: one that family relationships can be restored, renewed, actually restarted with loving forgiveness, understanding, and new beginnings, and that our church elders today will envision the five-year-plan for the church that they’re hoping to accomplish at their retreat.
Dreams and hope keep us going,…..

One of the great things about this retirement lifestyle is that finally, after all these years going separate ways because of W O R K, Ev and I are able to spend inordinate amounts of time together. It was hard at first to adjust to 24 hour togetherness, the dream of newlyweds, huh? When we first retired in 2007, I disliked waking up to, “What will we do today, Dear?” on a fairly regular basis. Yes, we had a new…..
Bookblurb Job Loss: What’s Next?
Whether due to downsizing, layoffs, business failures, staff cuts, or retirement, JOB LOSS is traumatic. Not only is it painful to the person affected, it impacts his friendships, his families, his former coworkers, his community, and most certainly will change his life, perhaps permanently. In this economy, not a street in America has been immune to witnessing the immense tarnishing of the American Dream.
This book takes the reader, no, the participant, victim, or…..
