I am currently working on a book of my poetry, sort of a compilation of things I’ve previously written plus some new pieces reflecting my Godwalk recently. Birthdays are good times to reflect. I can’t imagine it’s true, but I am now eighty-five years old. Where did the time go? How much more time do…..
It’s cliche, I know. It’s a new day. That’s the title of my latest blog at www.bettyjackson.net.
It’s a good thing, I’m thinking.
It was inspired by this verse from Matthew 10:27 which says: “What I tell you now in the darkness shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ears, shout from the housetops for all to hear!” For those of you unfamiliar with the context, always important, this is at the beginning of Jesus’s ministry, just…..
Proverbs 2:10-12 tells us why our days are important and how we should spend them. It reads: “For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.”
On this day, in 1954, I learned I was chosen to give a speech at my eighth grade graduation. On this day in 1965, I earned my Masters Degree with my parents ang grandmother in attendance to congratulate me. …..
While every day is special, June 14th was always special in my family when I was growing up. It was Grandpa Whitaker’s birthday. We always celebrated with a Flag cake later, when it was designated Flag Day, but when we were little, we always had strawberry shortcake, his favorite. I remember Grandpa because he smoked cigars and always gave me the paper ring…..
Psalm 62:1-2 says: “My soul finds rest in God alone. My salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock, and my salvation. He is my fortress I will never be shaken.”

Just as the graduation, commencement, commissioning ceremonies stress in speeches, advice, and directives, like pretty much everything else, the Bible has the best takeaway truth.
“Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. Wisdom is a tree of life to those…..
Today we honor those who served our nation in war and peacetime in the armed services, and especially those whose sacrifice included injury and death for the cause of our liberty. We also remember their families, who through their loved ones’ deployments and absences had to continue their family lives missing, and no doubt concerned about the welfare of their servicemembers.
I wrote a book…..
We watched a film last night on Newsmax. It is available on YouTube. It is called Faith Under Siege. It is about Ukrainian Christians, about the Russian Orthodox Church’s obedience to Russia, Tucker Carlson’s incorrect assumptions, and the strengthening of the Christian message in occupied sections of Ukraine. It is a must see, and a call for prayer for Christians of Ukraine I wish our government officials could see it as well.
The end of the school year always reminds me that learning never ends. I was always amazed, as a teacher, at how long it took each fall to get students “in the grove” of learning after eight weeks “off” during the summer. I’m convinced that around the year schooling is beneficial, but only if the entire school system does it at the same time. It’s terrible when a family has children in several levels of education and they try to…..
How blessed we have been the last two weeks. Our five senses have toured the world.
Anyone else amazed by the virtual travel we’ve seen on TV the last two weeks? Ev and I have never traveled to far-off places, but vicariously, this week we have been to the Sistine Chapel, with Pope Leo, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Syria with our President,…and a week ago to the Taj Mahal with our Vice President. What an amazing world we’ve seen from…..
