Betty Whitaker Jackson: Author

Betty Whitaker Jackson writes fiction, memoirs, poetry, children’s books, chapbooks, nonfiction, devotional guides, and anthology pieces. Although she has written for years, retirement from a forty-year career as a secondary language arts teacher has given her the required time to devote to her craft. She has mentored student writers in their first publications, and proofreads, edits, and judges contests when requested. She currently belongs to two monthly book clubs and mentors a memoir-writing group.

She won First Place in the Reader’s Digest Life Rich Memoir Writing Contest, and has published with WestBow Press, Life Rich Publishing, and KDP.Amazon.

She is an active member of the Space Coast Writers’ Guild and volunteers with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and Covenant Church. She resides in Palm Bay Florida after living in New York, New Jersey, and Iowa. She is a cum laude graduate of Hope College with a major in English Education and minors in history and music and hold a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from Hofstra University. She is a designated Master Teacher and is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Her favorite writing quote is: “I write to discover what I know.” By Flannery O’Connor.

Her website includes her blog, “The View from Here, and information about her thirty-seven published books. Several of her books, including Concord Place on Apple Tree LaneSeashell SagaCher’s Seaside Saga, Sam’s Sea Stars Saga, Suzanne Dawn’s Saga, and Mom’s Tender Touch  were written during National Novel Writing Months (NaNoWriMo) the past six Novembers. The drafts were then revised and published.

Ms. Jackson has contributed to twenty-two juried anthologies: The most recent are: “Pandemic,” “Mischief,” “Written in the Sun,” “Reflections,” “Mus(ing)s,”  “Secrets,” and “Addictions.” All twenty-two are available on Amazon.com.

Mrs. Jackson has struggled with retina issues for six years, but thanks to four surgeries and continued treatment, is still able to write. She is thankful for prayers on her behalf and the ability to expand font size on her large monitor.

She and her husband of fifty-seven years now reside in a senior independent living apartment. She  mentors a memoir-writing group of “new” authors. Their fifth book signing event will be November 2025. Her group was featured in Senior Life  Newspaper and at the Space Coast Writing Guild panel discussion on memoir writing in September 2024.

Soon celebrating their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary, the Jacksons have lived in New York, New Jersey, Iowa, and now, the paradise of Palm Bay, Florida. They now live in a Senior Living facility in Palm Bay, Florida. Their two grown children and daughter-in-love, all orchestra musicians and music teacher, and their beautiful and talented granddaughters Kaley and Emily, live nearby.

Hobbies include symphonic music, singing, book clubs, and teaching a weekly small-group Bible study on Zoom for seniors. Foundationally, they daily enjoy God’s divine appointments called Godincidences, which show God’s providence and loving kindness. Favorite saying: “Too blessed to be stressed.”

Ms. Jackson’s books are available as ebooks and paperback at Amazon.com, WestBow books, and LifeRich Publishing.
