rom my newest book, Lean Into Lent, Day 198h lesson:
(Psalm 84:11-12) For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, bless the one who trusts in You.
When we know the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, we know nothing is impossible for Him—no problem too big (parting the Red Sea), not even an animal who speaks can be ignored (Balaam’s donkey), no furnace is too hot (Daniel and his companions) no lion is too fierce (Daniel in the lion’s den) and no grave can hold Jesus captive (Easter morning.) He can stop the sun, he can make wet wood burn, he can feed thousands with manna or crusts of bread and a few fish. God gives us the Bible accounts so we can know Him.
PRAYER: Lord, today show me even more of Your remarkable Being in Your book, the Bible. Make me thirsty to know more. Give me a hunger to study, to read, to understand, to interpret, and to follow Your Word. Let not a day go by without my thirst to be assuaged as I read Your Word and further understand Your power and authority over the world You have made. Let the Psalms sing to me. Let me read a chapter of Proverbs for each of the thirty-one days of the month. Let me read in different translations. Let me attend a study class. Feed my soul as if I were walking with Jesus each day like the disciples did, for indeed, I can! Amen.
From Restore My Soul Psalms: A Lenten Journey:
MY PSALM 322 SANCTIFICATION
Almighty, Holy, Merciful, Omniscient Father,
We come to You this day in humility
Asking for Your grace and mercy and guidance
That we might become worthy
Of the calling of Jesus Christ.
We know we are considered righteous
Because of His perfect sacrifice,
Yet we long to come closer to Your expectation
Of holiness and purity for His sake.
We fail so miserably when we try to walk the walk.
Even when we do the right things,
Or say the right things,
Or study Your Word,
Or serve Your people,
Or faithfully pray,
Or tithe,
Or try to love others as ourselves,
We fail repeatedly.
Our motives are foul.
Our attitudes give us away
As the sinners we still are
Despite our best efforts.
We confess our inadequacy.
We once more come to You
Begging for forgiveness and cleansing.
While we long for sanctification
Our feet are clay, our tongues betray us,
Our path is not straight
And we feel inadequate.
However, in reading Your Scriptures,
We discover Your mercy and grace,
That You can use even the vilest,
The least likely one,
Those like me
To spread Your gospel
To witness to Your power and love,
And to further Your Kingdom on earth
We pray this day for You to use us,
Weak as we are, yet devoted to You,
To become part of Your cloud of witnesses
To others who struggle as we do.
And we are abundantly thankful
That Jesus paid the price for us all
And declared me too, even me,
Righteous in Your sight. Amen
